Series: How Do You See Christmas
Text: Matthew 1:21, Isaiah 1:18
Review of past sermons in the series:
- How Joseph saw Christmas
- How Mary saw Christmas
Today, we’ll see how GOD saw Christmas
I. GOD SAW CHRISTMAS WITH SIN IN VIEW
Read Matthew 1:21 and Isaiah 1:18
“The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart”
Two things God saw at Christmas:
A. The penalty of sin
Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death”
This ‘death’ involves 2 things:
- Spiritual death – separation from God
- Eternal death – damnation by God
B. The pollution of sin
In Isaiah 1:18, God saw sin as scarlet and crimson
“Sin stains our lives”
II. GOD SAW CHRISTMAS WITH SHEKINAH GLORY IN VIEW
Shekinah glory: the magnificence, worth, loveliness, and grandeur of God’s many perfections
God showed His glory in numerous ways:
- Creation (Psalm 19:1)
- Revealed Himself to Moses (Exodus 33)
- God filled the Tabernacle (Exodus 40)
JESUS: the greatest manifestation of God
Read Luke 2:9, 2:13-14
Read Hebrews 1:3
III. GOD SAW CHRISTMAS WITH A SAVIOR IN VIEW
A. The coming of the Savior
Read Matthew 1:21, John 1:12
The greatest gift ever given was Jesus
B. The cleansing of our sin
Read Matthew 1:21
Read 2 Corinthians 5:21
IV. GOD SAW CHRISTMAS WITH A SOLUTION IN VIEW
If God be for us, who can be against us? (Paul)
Read 1 John 4:9-10
“manifested” – to take the cover off
A. The desire of God
God’s plea to every person: “Come now…” (Isaiah 1:18)
B. The decision of Man
“let us reason together…” – a judicial term
We don’t need a second chance; we need a second birth
