Sermon by Pastor Brent Snook / December 25, 2022

Bible Text for Today: John 1:1-3, John 1:14-18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3)

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bear witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (John 1:14-18)

I. THE WONDER OF HIS GLORY

Read John 1:14

1. Micah–He would be born in Bethlehem

2. Malachi–He would come while the temple was standing

3. He would perform miracles

4. Psalms–He would speak in parables

5. Isaiah–A man in the wilderness would announce him

6. He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey

7. Zechariah-He would be betrayed by a friend

8. Zechariah–He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver

9. Psalms–He would die by crucifixion

10. Isaiah–Crucified between thieves

11. Psalms–His bones would not be broken

12. Psalms–They would gamble for His clothes

13. Isaiah–He would be buried with the rich

14. Psalms–He would be raised from the dead

B. THE GLORY OF HIS FLESH

“Glory to God in the highest” – loftiest, most elevated

God’s glory was previously tied to a place (the Tabernacle). Now, it’s wrapped in a Person.

II. THE WONDER OF HIS GRACE

Jesus came not merely to show God’s glory, but to extend to us God’s grace

Read John 1:14

Read John 1:16-17

He’s got grace for you … He’s got grace for me.
