God Promises His Presence

Sermon by Pastor Tim Block / July 24, 2022

Bible Text: 1 Samuel 12:20

Key Idea: God promises His presence

And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart; (1 Samuel 12:20)

The wickedness (evil) here refers to Israel’s demand for a new king instead of God as their King.

“You have done all this wickedness, yet…”  God is a God of second chances. He is God of grace, forgiveness and restoration.

“…turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;”

Q: Do we long for God’s presence in your life?

And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. 1 Samuel 12:21

Don’t be distracted. Don’t pursue empty things.

Q: What are the “empty things” you seek?

The presence of God will never let you down.

1 Samuel 12:22 – for the Lord will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake.

His promised presence is based on HIS unconditional love, not on YOUR performance.

Q: How will you respond to the promise of God’s presence?
