Sermon by Pastor Brent Snook / Sept 29, 2024

Series: Rebuild

Text: Nehemiah 6:1-19

If we are ever going to do a great work for God, we must learn to persevere.

I. PERSEVERE IN THE FOLLY OF DISTRACTION

Nehemiah 6:1-4

“If the devil cannot defeat us as a roaring lion, he will try to defeat us as an angel of light.”

“Distraction will halt a work for God or a life for God.”

II. PERSEVERE IN THE FALSEHOOD OF DEFAMATION

Nehemiah 6:5-9

“Slander is a tool of Satan.”

“Since I cannot govern my own tongue within my own teeth – How can I hope to govern the tongues of others?” – Benjamin Franklin

III. PERSEVERE IN THE FEAR OF DANGER

Nehemiah 6:10-14

“Just because someone claims to be a prophet – does not mean he or she is.”

Nehemiah was a man of discernment

How to Have Discernment

1. Get to know

2. Develop – Hebrews 5

3. The from the Holy Spirit – I Corinthians 12:10

“… be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee yea I will help thee. Yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10

“Fear weakens your knees and stops you from the work of God.”

II Timothy 1:7 – “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

“Worry doesn’t take the sorrow out of tomorrow. It just takes the strength out of today.” – Adrian Rogers

IV. PERSEVERE IN THE FACE OF DESERTERS

Nehemiah 6:15-19

What wall has God called you to build?

What rebuilding needs to take place in your life?
