Series: REBUILD
Text: Nehemiah 11
I A LIST OF NAMES
In Nehemiah 11, we see a list of names. Here’s what we can learn from this chapter
A. Recognition
God is a God of recognition. (See Hebrews 11, Hebrews 13:7, Malachi 3:16)
Everyone will stand before a judgment:
- Some will stand at the judgment seat of Christ
- Some will stand before the Great White Throne Judgment
There are degrees of reward – and degrees of punishment.
B. Roots
Read Nehemiah 12:1
We are not an island.
II. A LIST OF THE NAMELESS
Read Matthew 6:1
A. The devotion of the nameless
Read Nehemiah 11:2 – “willingly offered themselves”
B. The deeds of the nameless
5 Specific groups who gave willingly
- Those who willingly moved into the city (Nehemiah 11:2)
- Those who willingly worked within the temple (Read Nehemiah 11:12)
- Those who willingly took charge of the outside of the temple
- Mattaniah who willingly led in prayer (Nehemiah 11:17)
“Giving thanks for former mercies is a good way for begging for further mercies.” – Matthew Henry
- Those who willingly sang for the glory of God (Nehemiah 11:22, Ephesians 5:19-21)
C. The desire of the nameless
Read 1 Corinthians 1:27
The desire of the nameless is God’s glory
3 Facts to Remember
- Your gifts make you valuable although not necessarily famous
- Every labor you do in love is remembered by God
Read Hebrews 6:10
- Our final rewards will be determined on the basis of faithfulness – not public applause
