Hebrews 7:15-28,

The Resurrection was Just the Beginning

April 11, 2021 / Pastor Jeff Moss / Hebrews 7:15-28

THE RESURRECTION WAS JUST THE BEGINNING

Sermon by Pastor Jeff Moss / Sunday, April 11, 2021

Hebrews 7:15-28

We get that Jesus lived.

We get that Jesus was crucified.

We get that Jesus was raised from the grave.

We get that he ascended into Heaven.

But – we that he is just as active today as he was during all those other events!

Jesus is, right this moment, continuing to play a massive role in our and our !

In this chapter, the author ever so slightly pulls back the curtain of Heaven and gives us a glimpse into Jesus’ activities right now. In doing so, he presents a great message about the security of our and the of our Savior.

His message is this…

The ongoing work of Jesus Christ, our high priest, salvation for all who draw near to God through Him. (V 19)

I. He is (Vv 16, 17, 19, 21, 24, 25, 28)

As the writer writes this, he is really pounding this one point – Jesus Christ is very, very much !

It is such a vital part of the fullness of our salvation that our salvation is in the hands of a savior who is not just alive but lives !

1. He is . (V 16)

It is this indestructibility of Christ that stands behind what Paul wrote – (Romans 6:9)

2. He is (V 24, 25)

  • All of Jesus’ involvement in our lives is rooted in the fact that he, .
  • His involvement is .
  • His involvement is .

It is his permanent involvement that serves to fulfill in our lives.

Hebrews 13:20,21

Again, Jesus didn’t just “save you”and put you into “set it and forget it” mode. He saved you and at that moment, he set out on a tireless, active campaign to permanently be working within you to your life here!

3. He is (V 28)

  • The idea behind the word “consecrated” is that he is permanently .

Hebrews 4:15

II. He Secures the (Vv 21b, 22)

  • Romans 8:38, 39

Why could Paul make such a bold declaration? !

  • This picture of Jesus Christ standing in Heaven as the surety of my salvation may well be the playing out of John 10:27, 28

III. He Makes Perpetual (V 25)

  • Jesus is able to save “to the uttermost.”

The Greek word means “.”

  • We trust Christ as our savior and of those, how many will Jesus lose?  !
  •  “seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them.”
  •  His very there, having accomplished our redemption through His blood, means that when we sin, “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:2).

Every time I , he is there interceding for me.

Every time I , he is there interceding for me.

If he that for just a moment, we would all be doomed!

IV. He is (Vv 26 – 28)

  • Because he is perfect, the price he paid for our sin is perfectly to God!

1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

1 John 4:10 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

  • Propitiation simply means “” or “.”
  • “became us” (v. 26) points to Christ’s for His saving work.

1. He is “holy,” which points to His as set apart unto God.

2. He is “harmless”  He is “entirely free from all that is evil and harmful, both in and in ”

3. He is “Undefiled” means to be “free from any moral or spiritual ”

4. He is “Separate from sinners” Although He was the friend of sinners, He kept Himself separate and .

Instead of impurity, His purity and life-giving power were to them!

5. He is “made higher than the heavens”

This truth portrays the supreme of our ever-living High Priest in Heaven.

Jesus saves forever, those who come unto God through Him! (7:25).

  • But God promises that because Jesus is our superior high priest, salvation is for all who draw near to God through Him.

Jesus promises, “him that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).

He guarantees and your salvation for all eternity if you will come to Him!
