The Resurrection Rolls Away the Stones

Sermon by Pastor Brent Snook / March 31, 2024 Easter Sunday

Bible Text: Mark 16:1-4

We face the insurmountable obstacles in life.

We can’t move it. Only Jesus can.

There were other stones that were moved that Easter morning…

I. The Stone of Devastation

The women who encountered Jesus’ tomb were devastated and heartbroken.
And so were ALL His followers.

Luke 24:21 – “but we trusted that it had been He which should have redeemed Israel.”

Has your faith been shaken? Has your hopes been crushed?

II. The Stone of Despair

At Christ’s arrest, His disciples abandoned Him in His time of need.

John 20:19 – “The same day at evening being the first day of the week when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews.

They were paralyzed with fear.

But something changed…

(John 20:19)

III. The Stone of Doubt

The story of Thomas

“It’s alright to doubt – as long as you’re willing to follow the evidence.” – Pastor Snook

What changed Thomas?

Read John 16:16, John 16:20-22

When darkness comes and doubt hits, hang on to God’s promises.

IV. The Stone of Defeat

The story of Peter

Read John 13:37

Peter failed Jesus when it counted the most.

What became of Peter – and the remaining disciples?

V. The Stone of Death

1 Corinthians 15:26 – “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”

Death. It’s inescapable.

Adam’s sin allowed to death to claim every human life.

Adam gave us all death. Jesus offer all life.

Read John 11:25-26
